Coconut Rough Bliss Balls

Bliss balls are the perfect afternoon pick me up or after dinner treat to cure those sweet cravings. Here I have made them to suit those chocolate cravings but you can pretty much go as crazy or simple as you like! Cacao is the raw and unprocessed form of the conventional chocolate powder most of us know as cocoa. Cacao is a little more bitter than cocoa so the flavour does take a bit of getting used to but if you like dark chocolate than you’ll have no problems.

Cacao also has many health benefits such as:

  • Being the highest plant source of iron (haemogloblin production)
  • A rich source of magnesium (promotes sleep and reduces muscle cramps)
  • Has more calcium than cow’s milk (bone health)
  • Has more antioxidants than blueberries (heart health and fights against free radicals)
  • Is a natural mood elevator (reduces depression)

Sooo, if you ever needed another reason to eat chocolate than that’s just a few ; )


COCONUT ROUGH BLISS BALLS 

SERVES: 8-10              TIME: 15 MINUTES              DIETARY: GF, DF, V


INGREDIENTS 

  • 1 cup almonds
  • 4 tbsp. shredded coconut
  • 1/3 cup cacao powder
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 4 fresh medjool dates (or 1 ½ tbsp. rice malt syrup)
  • ¼ cup cacao nibs

 

DIRECTIONS 

  1. Add all ingredients but the cacao nibs to a food processor and blend until crumbly. Add extra coconut oil if the mixture is too dry
  2. Stir through the cacao nibs
  3. Roll into 8-10 balls (depending how big you like them)
  4. Pop in freezer for an hour to set and then keep in fridge in air tight container until you have demolished them all!

 

Variations- if you want to make them more coco-nutty or more like rum balls put 1 tbsp. of desiccated coconut in a bowl and roll the bliss balls in them to coat before you set them in the freezer. They will then look something like this…
